Port St. Lucie named safest large city in Florida for tenth straight year

For the tenth year in a row, Port St. Lucie’s crime rate makes it the safest Florida city with a population of more than 100,000 people, according to a news release. In that category, Port St. Lucie experienced the lowest number of crimes in 2019, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Uniform Crime Report.

The city earned the distinction 15 out of the past 17 years, said Port St. Lucie Police Chief John Bolduc. “I am pleased to report crime rates in the city of Port St. Lucie continue to decline.”

The city’s overall crimes dropped by 3.9% last year, despite a population increase of approximately 6,000, a city news release states. The crime rate is the number of crimes adjusted for population. Population is 191,903. Crime in Port St. Lucie dropped 14% in 2017, and 10.5% in 2018.
